Ten years ago, the people gathered on this holy ground, home to the Nez Perce for thousands of years, for a blessing ceremony where the women faced north and the men faced south and the elders faced east to welcome the new day. Today, we come together in this earthen listening circle to hear spirit in the gentle breeze and flowing water, in the heartbeat of the drum and the voices of the elders, in the horses parading around the circle and the echoes of ancient memories reverberating inside… Today, we commemorate what was and celebrate what is… we are one people breathed alive through our one heart…
