Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 7 – Day 330 – 11/10/2020

on the eve of 11-11 at 11:11, i begin calling in armistice… exactly at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 102 years ago, people across Europe suddenly stopped shooting guns at each other… up until that moment, they were killing and taking bullets, falling and screaming, moaning and dying… then they stopped, on schedule… the armistice agreement that ended World War I had set 11 o’clock as quitting time… Armistice Day was created to celebrate the ending of World War I and to work for the ending of all war...

the next year, King George asked for two minutes of silence for all people to reflect on and re-member the cost of war and the benefits of a lasting peace… in this moment, let us observe two minutes of silence while we contemplate the words of  an American President, Abraham Lincoln almost a half a century earlier when the United States was dangerously divided…

“I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.”

in every moment, may we all tune into a greater wisdom… the peace passing all understanding…

“The weary world is waiting for
Peace forevermore
So take away the gun
From every mother’s son
And put an end to war.”

~ Al Jolson ~

join with me on the 11th at 11 to chime bells 11 times commemorating the 102nd anniversary of WWI’s end following that with a wave of three minutes of silence dedicated to all who died and to all who lived… and then, may we rise up singing and dancing peace…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 5 – Day 262 – 9/4/2018

Named Sacred 4 Peace Whale Watcing 2016 Cape Disappointment 004 PEACE Prayer.

If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.

~ Lao Tzu ~

the poetic peace pilgrimage was conceived so many moons ago as a daily breathing practice of sacred activism, a breathing in of the bodhisattva vows to keep returning to the breath until all beings are liberated…

every day is a day of peace, every moment is a moment of peace, sacred september really underlines the collective theme of peace with celebrating it on the 21st just as this prayer of St Francis, a favorite since childhood is the prayer, the intention, the vow of the peace pilgrimage….

may we conspire, breathe together these sacred vows this moment, every moment transforming ourselves and the world as we surrender to the vast ocean of peace…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 329 – 11/10/2017

Named Numina November 10 Armistice Day

Exactly at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 99 years ago, people across Europe suddenly stopped shooting guns at each other. Up until that moment, they were killing and taking bullets, falling and screaming, moaning and dying. Then they stopped, on schedule. It wasn’t that they’d gotten tired or come to their senses. Both before and after 11 o’clock they were simply following orders. The Armistice agreement that ended World War I had set 11 o’clock as quitting time.

Each year, for a lot of years, there was a remembrance on November 11th. The U.S. Congress called Armistice Day a holiday to “perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations,” a day “dedicated to the cause of world peace.” When churches rang their bells at 11:00, that’s what they meant. And they meant it right up until the war on Korea, the one the North Koreans all still remember with shudders of horror. And then Congress turned Armistice Day into Veterans Day, and veterans into props for marketing more wars and a permanent state of war preparations.
