Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 290- 10/2/2023

what a trifecta of riches on this second day where every moment of eternity is devoted to breaking our one heart open ever more widely and deeply as we celebrate today the astonishing light of our interbeing, the life of gandhi whose message was his life , this examplar being who taught us ahimsa, the law of love (crudely translated into English as non-violence), on this day of his birth anniversary and i celebrate another of the dearest of beings who is ahimsa on the eve of his three year old birthday… in honor of all beings of ahimsa, let us give our attention and intention to the words of HH the Dalai Lama:

CULTIVATE AN OPEN HEART

“I believe that every human being has an innate desire for happiness and does not want to suffer. I believe that each of us has the same potential to develop inner peace and thereby achieve happiness and joy. If one has a positive mental attitude then, even when surrounded by hostility, one will not lack inner peace. On the other hand, if one’s mental attitude is more negative, influenced by fear, suspicion, helplessness, or self-loathing, then, even when surrounded by one’s best friends, in a nice atmosphere and comfortable surroundings, one will not be happy.

In my own case, at the age of 16, I lost my freedom, and at 24, I lost my country. I have been a refugee for the last forty years, with heavy responsibilities. As I look back, my life has not been easy. However, throughout all these years I learned about compassion, about caring for others. This mental attitude has brought me inner strength. One of my favorite prayers,  translated roughly, is:

So long as space remains,
So long as sentient beings remain,
I will remain,
In order to help, in order to serve,
In order to make my own contribution.

That sort of thinking has brought purpose to my life. No matter how difficult or complicated things may be, if we have this type of mental attitude we can have inner peace.

Spiritual growth need not be based on religious faith. I believe that the methods by which we increase our altruism, our sense of caring for others, and by which we develop the attitude that our own individual concerns are less important than those of others, are common to all major religious traditions. Though we may find differences in philosophical views and rites, all religions advocate love, compassion, and forgiveness. And even persons who do not believe in religion can appreciate the virtues of basic human values.

Since our very existence and well-being are a result of the cooperation and contributions of countless others, we must have a proper attitude and way of relating to them. In the past, countries, regions, and even villages were economically independent of one another. Under those circumstances the destruction of one’s enemy might have been a victory for oneself. Today we are so interdependent that the concept of war has become outdated. When we face problems or disagreements today, we have to arrive at solutions through dialogue. We cannot destroy our neighbors! We cannot ignore their interests! Doing so would ultimately cause us to suffer.

Non-violence does not mean that we remain indifferent to a problem. On the contrary, it is important to be fully engaged. However, we must do so in a way that does not benefit us alone. We must not harm the interests of others. Non-violence, therefore, is not merely the absence of violence. It involves a sense of compassion and caring. I strongly believe that we must promote non-violence at the level of the family as well as at the national and international levels.

We must try to develop greater perspective, looking at situations from all angles. Usually, when we face problems ,we look at them from our own point of view. We even sometimes deliberately ignore other aspects of a situation. This often leads to negative consequences.

Sometimes, due to a very small matter, a fight starts between a husband and wife, or a parent and child. If you focus merely on the immediate problem, then yes, it really is worth fighting and quarreling. It is even worth divorcing! However, looking at the situation with more perspective, we see that though there is a problem, there is also a common interest. You can come to feel, “This is a small problem which I must solve by dialogue, not by drastic measures.” We can thereby develop a non-violent atmosphere within our own family, as well as within our community.

Another important practice in training our minds involves learning to distinguish between the negative qualities of conceit or arrogance and those of positive pride or self-confidence. In my own practice, when I have an arrogant feeling, “Oh, I’m somehow special,” I say to myself, “I’m a human being and a Buddhist monk. I thereby have a great opportunity to practice the spiritual path leading to Buddhahood.” I then compare myself to a small insect in front of me and think, “This little insect is very weak, with no capacity to think about philosophical matters. It has no ability to develop altruism. In spite of the opportunity I have, I behave in this stupid way.” If I judge myself from this point of view, the insect is definitely more honest and sincere than I am.

Human emotions are very powerful and sometimes overwhelm us. This can lead to disasters. I think that anger and hatred actually cause more harm to us than to the person responsible for our problem. Imagine that your neighbor hates you and is always creating problems for you. If you lose your temper and develop hatred toward him, your digestion will be bad, your sound sleep will go, and you will have to start to use tranquilizers and sleeping pills. You will have to increase the doses of these, which will harm your body. Your mood will be affected, and as a result your old friends will hesitate to visit you. You will gradually have more white hair and wrinkles, and you may eventually develop more serious health problems. Then your neighbor will be really happy. Without having inflicted any physical harm he will have fulfilled his wish!

If, in spite of his injustices, you remain calm, happy, and peaceful, your health will remain strong, you will continue to be joyful, and more friends will come to visit you. Your life will become more successful. This will really bring about worry in your neighbor’s mind. I think that this is the wise way to inflict harm upon your neighbor. You must not consider tolerance and patience to be signs of weakness. I consider them signs of strength.

When we are faced with a person or group of people wishing us harm, we can view this as an opportunity to develop patience and tolerance. We need these qualities; they are useful to us. And the only occasion we have to develop them is when we are challenged by an enemy. So, from this point of view, our enemy is our Guru, our teacher. Irrespective of their motivation, from our point of view they are very beneficial, a blessing.

There is a Buddhist practice where one imagines giving the source of all joy to another person, thereby removing all their suffering. Though of course we cannot change their situation, I do feel that in some cases, through a genuine sense of caring and compassion, through our sharing in their plight, our attitude can help alleviate that person’s suffering, if only mentally. However, the main point of this practice is to increase our inner strength and courage.

I have chosen a few lines that I feel would be acceptable to people of all faiths, and even to those with no spiritual belief. When reading these lines, if you are a religious practitioner, you can reflect upon the divine form that you worship. A Christian can think of Jesus or God; a Muslim can reflect upon Allah. Then, while reciting these verses, make the commitment to enhance your spiritual values. If you are not religious, you can reflect upon the fact that, fundamentally, all beings are equal to you in their wish for happiness and their desire to overcome suffering. Recognizing this, you make a pledge to develop a good heart. It is most important that we have a warm heart. As long as we are part of human society, it is very important to be a kind, warm-hearted person.

May the poor find wealth,
Those weak with sorrow find joy.
May the forlorn find new hope,
Constant happiness and prosperity.
May the frightened cease to be afraid,
And those bound be free.”

transporting us on an oddysea of devocean into the field of unity

where all our relations dwell peacefully communing in loving harmony

~

an extraordinary journey in this moment of eternity to a whole new state calling for a different way:

of dan-sing the path with presence taking courage come what may

and deepening into trusting the cosmic grace always in play

inspiring relaxing and softening into love

flowing with divine below and above

within/without, in front of/behind

knowing we’re one heartmind

well come to oddysea october where every day is a magical mystery tour into the cave of illumination devoted to breaking our one heart/head/body/spirit open ever more widely and deeply so we re-member who we truly are… october, for me, is usually a fest around the theme of opening; it’s been brought so viscerally home to me with the most miraculous odyssey, wandering in wonder of late complete with dreams where i keep reading from the akashic records over and over again with the message to be witnessing consciousness, to be in this world fully engaged but not of this world and so i spend the day celebrating and reflecting on this magical mystery tour and thanking the powers that truly be for creating this world of harmony and unity free for all to experience as a world of blessing and blissing…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 288- 9/30/2023

today is such a special blessing the space moment of eternity as we close this soulful moonth of september, a moon of  being silently drawn  by the pull of surrendering to love – thank you, dear Rumi, and happiest of turns around the sun on this 816th anniversary of your birth…

blessing the space of a moon of our continued witnessing of the world’s great turning, one long moon moment of intensity and chaos as we are pushed to the edge and over the edge awaiting the birth of a dan-sing star… the great turning is so playing out through the earth of my being – today i intend on more surrendering to love and celebrating love with a wise sage turning three while gazing into the sun and syncing into the river…

let’s close this moon together dear sangha of imaginal cells by syncing now with our beloved earth mother sitting in circle around the central sun imagining we’re in the field pictured here and as we deeply conspire together, breathe together, see and feel a bubble of light surrounding your physical body and extending out about four feet around you… finding a place where we are comfortable, let go of any doing… now, take a full breath – holding it for a moment and then releasing it completely… and, another full breath – holding it for a moment and then releasing it completely… and, one more deep cleansing breath…

now imagine this bubble is a window, a circular skylight and simply with your intention open the window as wide as you can and connect with the enormous steams of light flowing down from the upper worlds, the plasma fields, the akasha, the sammi, the energy flow of creation flowing through you and breaking up and releasing any blockages, issues, dams to compost them into the deep earth… the sammi, the electric light stream continues to flow down into the earth engendering a reciprocal response from our earth mother with an ascending magnetic flow of energy of unconditional love whispering that it’s safe to be here, all is well…

feel your heart opening and your mind stilling as these two streams of energy flow simultaneously creating a sense of loving peaceful presence as we expand out and deepen further and further into the planet, the soular system, the galaxies out to the edges of creation and beyond where we experience SELF as the infinite one, the one consciousness, we are the drop dissolving into the ocean of interbeing, surrendering to, softening into flow…

light, love, peace… our heart opening and expanding with each breath… light, love, peace… connecting with the earth, with nature, with all beings… light, love, peace… witnessing the intelligence within every living being…

as we breathe we are connecting with all that is, with earth and sky, oceans and mountains, all beings and the cosmos which surrounds us… we are one with all… light, love, peace… expanding and connecting with all… gradually bringing our awareness back to our heart, notice the steady beating of life, the rich fullness and the expansion…

now lay your hand upon your heart and notice any thoughts or feelings and then release these thoughts with ease bringing your focus back to the breath…

gradually feel your breath bringing your attention back to your first chakra noticing the energy of the Mother holding us quietly and still… with great gratitude and love, release the energy and vibration back to the earth saying, thank you, thank you, thank you for sustaining us and holding us as one and thank you for your gifts of light, love and peace…

slowly and with great ease, notice your hands and feet, wiggle your toes and gradually open your eyes simply sitting for a few moments and witnessing deeply our connection with our earthmother and all living beings…

may we always be silently drawn by the stronger pull of surrendering to love… may this doorway between the worlds always stay open in each wild and beautiful moment of eternity and may we step up as conscious, co-creating imaginal cells of liberation breathing in the new /old template of peace… blessed bee…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 287- 9/29/2023

the heart sutra

liberates all suffering

magical mantra

today is World Heart Day and the perfect day for the heart of teachings from wisdom traditions on emptiness, the heart of compassion… i had thought i would write of today’s very powerful full moon; however, this moment of eternity calls me to the heart sutra, more on this moon tomorrow unless the moment pulls me somewhere else…

compassion is empathy for suffering arising from the heart’s valorous capacity to recognize universal kinship and belonging, transforming resentment into forgiveness, hatred into friendliness, and fear into kindness for al beings… compassion mandates that we extend understanding, warmth, sensitivity, and openness to the sorrows of the world in a truthful and genuine way… heaven knows that in these chaotic moments of eternity, the global nervous system needs all the compassion we can muster…

the Sanskrit word for heart is “hridayam”, meaning “that which receives, gives and circulates…”

may we radiate lovingkindness and compassion with every breath in every sacred moment…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 286- 9/28/2023

as i write tonite on the eve of the harvest moon in the northern hemispere when we return thanks to our mother, the earth, which sustains us, when we return thanks to the rivers and streams which supply us with water, when we return thanks to all herbs which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases, when we return thanks to the moon and stars which have given to us their light when the sun was gone, when we return thanks to the sun that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye and when we return thanks to the Great Spirit, in Whom is embodied all goodness, and Who directs all things for the good of Her children, i want to post this beautiful invocation of intention for this powerful portal of fresh starts…

this Harvest Moon in Aries is here to amplify our greatest gratitude and light up our dreamer within to reflect, celebrate and complete… the Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs nearest to the Autumnal Equinox, which we recently celebrated in the northern hemisphere… the Equinoxes represent balance and harmony, and bring powerful energies of change marking the shift of seasons and reminding us of transformation, both in the world around us and deep within our own beings… as our Earth shifts, so do we…

this moon invites our entering into the power of experiencing life beyond duality, of living in the field out beyond wrongdoing and rightdoing by incorporating both the inner and the outer realms, the light and the dark, the highs and the lows, the ups and the down, your inner king and queen / masculine and feminine, and synthesizing these creative powers of resonant polarity…this Seeress Moon is the sacred moment of eternity to activate and ground our visions and dreams…

“We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it. We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but on the positive affirmation of peace.

We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody, that is far superior to the discords of war. Somehow, we must transform the dynamics of the world power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race, which no one can win, to a positive contest to harness humanity’s creative genius for the purpose of making peace and prosperity a reality for all the nations of the world. In short, we must shift the arms race into a peace race.

If we have a will – and determination – to mount such a peace offensive, we will unlock hitherto tightly sealed doors of hope and transform our imminent cosmic elegy into a psalm of creative fulfillment.”

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 285- 9/27/2023

i love this image that often dances on the tip of consciousness of all that is as a dancing light wave, a weather pattern of ecstatic motion mirrored in the fractal image of all that is as a pilgrim people always on the move into ever deepening endless journeying…

today is  one beautiful moment of unfolding mystery, all the sweeter for returning to the sacred dream space of reflection to contemplate this deep passage of surrendering into love, of coming home to the mystery of innerstanding in the context of the sacred knowing of interbeing…

on this lovely portal day as sister moon lightens, are you, as i am, in joy/enjoying seeing in the dark guided by the stars above re-membering we are one starlight vessel of overflowing love?

seeing in the dark, dancing in the dark, feeling the way lands me in a beautiful pause, an ecstatic moment right in the center of the turning wheel in the stillpoint of creation where there’s only the dance of ecstatic motion, the universe alive in dynamic devocean…

thank you, beloveds, for dan-sing on the edge and walking this spirit path with me… for dancing rainbow mystery ecstatically and resting in the peace of each moment eternally…

The Peace of Wild Things

“When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 284- 9/26/2023

in this moment of eternity of celebrating the astonishing light of being, let’s come together to conspire, to breathe together and be the transformation… with this breath, open your wings being peace… and with the next breath spread your wings flying peace around the world… what a beautiful sight – a cosmos of peace built on justice and guided by love…

in 2013, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared September 26 to be the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons with the aims of the day being to enhance public awareness about the threat posed to all beings by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination… inspired by an incident that unfolded on September 26, 1983 at a Soviet nuclear early warning facility that nearly led to a nuclear war by accident, thanks be for the being who saved the world and now it is our turn…

~

“Today the danger of some sort of a nuclear catastrophe is greater than it was during the Cold War and most people are blissfully unaware of this danger…Because we don’t understand the dangers, we make no serious attempt to repair the hostility between the United States and Russia. And so we are allowing ourselves to sleepwalk into another catastrophe. We must wake up.”

~William J. Perry, former U.S. Secretary of Defense~

~

as i contemplate this International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, my reverie turns inward musing on disarming inner nuclear weapons, tending to our one heart in these troubled  and gifted times…

in the mysterious space of liminality when awakening from resting in the invisible realms, i love being rocked in the lap of grandmother breathing in her boundless love and breathing it out gratefully…

re-membering love is the most powerful medicine, i return and return and return and return again to bathe in these healing waters tending the garden of compassion located in the earth of being…

~

In the name of daybreak
and the eyelids of morning
and the wayfaring moon
and the night when it departs,

I swear I will not dishonor
my soul with hatred
but offer myself humbly
as a guardian of nature,
as a healer of misery,
as a messenger of wonder
as an architect of peace.

In the name of the sun and its minors
and the day that embraces it
and the cloud veils drawn over it
and the uttermost night
and the male and the female
and the plants bursting with seed
and the crowning seasons of the firefly
and the apple, I will honor all life

—wherever and in whatever form
it may dwell—on Earth my home,
and in the mansions of the stars.”

Drink the wine down, tip the glass.  Drink with the Beloved.
Take this breath like it’s your last.   Drink with the Beloved.
We’re a caravan, you see, moving towards our destiny.  You must find the eyes to see.
Drink with the Beloved.

La Illaha il’Allah, La Illaha il’Allah
La Illaha il’Allah, La Illaha il’Allah

Go to the East or to the West.  Drink with the Beloved.
You can’t escape this birth and death.  Drink with the Beloved.
Drink the cup of loving down.  This is truly drink and drown.  What is lost, it shall be found.
Drink with the Beloved.

La Illaha il’Allah, La Illaha il’Allah
La Illaha il’Allah, La Illaha il’Allah

So listen to the inner call.  Drink with the Beloved.
The tavern masters rise and fall.  Drink with the Beloved.
Watch the drunkards reel and spin.   Feel the Presence from within, toasting with the dearest Friend.  Drink with the Beloved.

La Illaha il’Allah, La Illaha il’Allah
La Illaha il’Allah, La Illaha il’Allah

ah, it’s not yet that day of the moonth, the last day, the day of blessing the space between us but in this new state that’s all i really want to do – come together to sing blessing the space of our belonging together no matter what, being here for each other eternally…

may we come together in every moment to strengthen and stretch our heart muscle and to polish the mirror of being, of deepening into our true nature which is not only what Rumi calls us to but also which this moment of planetary mutation calls us to, which is what viruses call us to as they whisper to the genies to mutate, transform… what healing balm to have such astonishing light beings to dance the pathless path together drinking in that in the spaciousness of our being together in this present moment all is well come what may so let us devote this wild and precious moment and every wild and precious moment to opening our hearts and being peace…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 282- 9/24/2023

“Everything the power of the world does is done in a circle. The sky is round and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls, birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same, and both are round.

Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood and so it is in everything where power moves. Our tipis were round like the nests of birds and these were always set in a circle, the nation’s hoop, a nest of many nests where the Great Spirit meant for us to hatch our children.

~Hehaka Sapa (Black Elk)~

we are one interconnected circle of interbeing, blessed bee… a sacred hoop belonging to each other eternally…

today is a day of outer clouds with rain on the way and i’m reveling in the energy of rainmaker who journeyed to an unknown land of drought, went into her tipi sweat lodge and came out 3 days later when the rains came restoring the land into harmony by going inside and coming into balance, into harmony and joining with the commonunity to celebrate the circle, the sacred hoop of regeneration…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 281- 9/23/2023

ah/awe/aum… taking a deep breath and another opening the heart ever wider and wider and one more breath feeling the golden light raining into every wild molecule of the one body in this profoundly transformative moment of the great turning of the ages… this has been the mother of all cycles inspiring, cataly-sing a dismembering where i feel that i have dissolved into the sea twenty-three moonths after moving to an island on the banks of a mighty river… all of these words re-hearten me to where i was and what i wrote three years ago on this very day – words that ring as true in this moment of eternity as they did then:

“it feels like the first time ever that i’m posting to my website blogs and in a way it is… in linear time, it’s been a month; in apocalyptic august and soulful september flow, it’s been several lifetimes… when last i posted, i had gone off with beloved family for a long weekend which turned into quite an adventure i didn’t see coming… or did i?

yesterday marked the four week anniversary of my latest close encounter with death and i’ve been slowly coming back to life… still i hear the words of the ICU doctor standing at the threshold of my room saying to the nurse it was a miracle i came back to life… more on this later but for now i want to do a redux on the last post back on the 23rd of august because it’s just what i want to say right now and what was such a part of bringing me back… thank you to all co-hearts in the sangha of the one heart of boundless love for singing me back here…

~

Welcome Home!

relatives, we are lovingly invited

to spend this moment, this beautiful moment

at home with Beloved…

simply being presence of essence…

come as you are, your radiant Self,

for this moment of

wonder, awe, bliss, compassion, flow, grace, joy, kindness

to drink in the gamma rays flooding the cosmos with a divine transfusion of transfiguring love…

~

in the wake of the great reset following the total eclipse of the sun six years ago at this time, a dream arises of being in a field where the Beloved Communion dwells and hearing that our mission is to sing… last night/this morning the dream returns saying it is the moment to be about this business of singing in the wake of the ever quickening initiation we are all undergoing…

are you hearing beloved singing you? listen a little deeper for the cosmic hum as you suspend noise and distraction in this moment, this beautiful moment… are you hearing the whispers of the ancestors flowing through our oceanic body? ah yes, let’s pause here in the stillpoint and align with the rhythm of our one heart…

may earth’s song reach into our deepest and wildest sacred spaces… may we hear the melodic voices of all our relations… may our inhalations inspire re-joy-sing and our exhalations re-sound and re-verberate harmony throughout the watery womb of our one heart…

~

our roots go down, down into the earth

our branches reach high, high into the sky

golden light rains, into our one heart

drinking in beloved, we are one…”
