Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 274 – 9/16/2017

Named Sacred September 16 Alaska Buddha Bear

as i sit in the dark this week, i feel like a bear in hibernation being nourished by the wisdom stored in the cells now able to activate visions of new birthings, sustainable ways of being in the world…

may we all be nourished to serve for the benefit of all as we dwell in this moment re-membering what really matters…

Look to this day,
for it is life, the very breath of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the realities of your existence;
the bliss of growth,
the glory of action,
the splendor of beauty.
For yesterday is only a dream,
and tomorrow is but a vision.
But today, well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
and every tomorrow
a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 273 – 9/15/2017

Named Sacred September 15 ReBirth 9-13-15 010

though i have a daily practice of this mantra for almost two turns around the sun, sometimes it’s hard to leap into the unknown trusting in the wings, the sheltering arms to appear… that’s when i love flying shamanically to grandmother ocean and listening to her lullabies blessing adventuring into new spaces, wide open places of true refuge, coming home to our one heart…

this ides of september seems an especially potent day of calling so many to let go, to surrender all to love and to re-member to be insightful, give up sight …

Grandmother Ocean Blessingway

May you find in me the Grandmother of the Cosmos.
May my heart be a grandmother’s heart, my waves like a mother’s arms.
May my response to your suffering be a mother’s response to your suffering.
May I sit with you in the dark, like a grandmother sits in the dark.
May you know through our relationship that there is something that can be trusted.

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 272 – 9/14/2017

Named Sacred September 14 Heart Pilgrimage Chalice Well

today i venture on a long awaited pilgrimage of the heart and for the third time in as many turns around the sun, the journey is radically different than planned… once again, that sacred wound to the eye flares transmuting the outer communal journey into a solitary inner voyage to a sacred space of the beloved where her voice sings through waters flowing in deep, dark earth…

THE WELL

Be thankful now for having arrived,
for the sense of having drunk from a well,
for remembering the long drought
that preceded your arrival and the years
walking in a desert landscape of surfaces
looking for a spring hidden from you so long
that even wanting to find it now had gone
from your mind until you only remembered
the hard pilgrimage that brought you here,
the thirst that caught in your throat;
the taste of a world just-missed
and the dry throat that came from a love
you remembered but had never fully wanted
for yourself, until finally after years making
the long trek to get here it was as if your whole
achievement had become nothing but thirst itself.

But the miracle had come simply
from allowing yourself to know
that you had found it, that this time
someone walking out into the clear air
from far inside you had decided not to walk
past it any more; the miracle had come
at the roadside in the kneeling to drink
and the prayer you said, and the tears you shed
and the memory you held and the realization
that in this silence you no longer had to keep
your eyes and ears averted from the place
that could save you, that you had been given
the strength to let go of the thirsty dust laden
pilgrim-self that brought you here, walking
with her bent back, her bowed head
and her careful explanations.

No, the miracle had already happened
when you stood up, shook off the dust
and walked along the road from the well,
out of the desert toward the mountain,
as if already home again, as if you deserved
what you loved all along, as if just
remembering the taste of that clear cool
spring could lift up your face and set you free.

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 270 – 9/12/2017

Named Sacred September 12 John O'Donahue Mt Rainier Lenticular Cap Clouds.

ah, today is one of those days when all i can be is totally surrendered in the present moment… in great pain with the flareup of an old eye injury, unable to see or just barely out of the other eye and so able to breathe peace and listen deeply…

For Presence
Awaken to the mystery of being here
and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.
Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.
Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.
Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to
follow its path.
Let the flame of anger free you of all falsity.
May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame.
May anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of
soul.
Take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek
no attention.
Be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.
May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven
around the heart of wonder.

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 267 – 9/9/2017

Named Sacred September 9 Rumi Living Poetry 042

I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world.
I may not complete this last one
but I give myself to it.

I circle around God, around the primordial tower.
I’ve been circling for thousands of years
and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?

~ Rainer Maria Rilke ~

As once the winged energy of delight
carried you over childhood’s dark abysses,
now beyond your own life build the great
arch of unimagined bridges.

Wonders happen if we can succeed
in passing through the harshest danger;
but only in a bright and purely granted
achievement can we realize the wonder.

To work with Things in the indescribable
relationship is not too hard for us;
the pattern grows more intricate and subtle,
and being swept along is not enough.

Take your practiced powers and stretch them out
until they span the chasm between two
contradictions… For the god
wants to know himself in you.

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 266 – 9/8/2017

Named Sacred September 8 Wendell Berry I have been led.

in the midst of all the suffering that is so visibly, viscerally with us, i, too, feel led and held in the deep peace at the eye of the storm…

thank you to farmer of the heart and of the land, Wendell Berry, for so aptly describing the experience of walking this pathless path… the moments when the rubber touches the road and we are given the opportunity to walk our talk, to keep putting one foot in front of the other, to walk in light, to walk in love, to listen deeply within for which way to go, to trust we are being pulled along the path with heart…

thank you to the cosmic hum for singing our soul song through our bones, for leading us along the spirit path…

may we all love beyond measure, understanding and conditions re-membering our true nature as a communion of compassionate cooperatives dwelling in a responsive cosmos cross-pollinated with every breath’s love and light…

Poetic PEACE Pilgrimage – Year 4 – Day 265 – 9/7/2017

Named Sacred September 7 Eclipse Totality at Smith Rock

“A true vocation requires shedding anything that would impede or obscure the call. A true pilgrimage requires letting go of the very things most people try to hold onto. In seeking after what the soul desires we become pilgrims with no home but the path the soul would have us follow. As the old proverb says, “Before you begin the journey, you own the journey. Once you have begun, the journey owns you.” After all, what good is a dream that doesn’t test the mettle of the dreamer? What good is a path that doesn’t carry us to the edge and then beyond that place? A true calling involves a great exposure before it can become a genuine refuge.”
– Michael Meade

The Journey

Above the mountains
the geese turn into
the light again

Painting their
black silhouettes
on an open sky.

Sometimes everything
has to be
inscribed across
the heavens

so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you.

Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that

small, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.

Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out

someone has written
something new
in the ashes of your life.

You are not leaving
you are arriving.
