“One doesn’t arrive… by necessarily knowing where one is going… In every work of art something appears that does not previously exist, and so, by default, you work from what you know to what you don’t know.”

~Ann Hamilton~

such an extraordinary moment we are in with our whole island home on pregnant pause,in the liminal space of a mutation cycle, a transformative collective initiation calling us into true reality where everything is uncertain and unknown and it’s still the moon of april, national poetry month, so i offer a posting so in sync with where we are now… some of the great Polish poet’s, Wislawa Szymborska, acceptance speech when she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996…

“the poetics of not knowing

Inspiration is not the exclusive privilege of poets or artists generally. There is, has been, and will always be a certain group of people whom inspiration visits. It’s made up of all those who’ve consciously chosen their calling and do their job with love and imagination. It may include doctors, teachers, gardeners — and I could list a hundred more professions. Their work becomes one continuous adventure as long as they manage to keep discovering new challenges in it. Difficulties and setbacks never quell their curiosity. A swarm of new questions emerges from every problem they solve. Whatever inspiration is, it’s born from a continuous “I don’t know.”

…I value that little phrase “I don’t know” so highly. It’s small, but it flies on mighty wings. It expands our lives to include the spaces within us as well as those outer expanses in which our tiny Earth hangs suspended. If Isaac Newton had never said to himself “I don’t know,” the apples in his little orchard might have dropped to the ground like hailstones and at best he would have stooped to pick them up and gobble them with gusto. Had my compatriot Marie Sklodowska-Curie never said to herself “I don’t know”, she probably would have wound up teaching chemistry at some private high school for young ladies from good families, and would have ended her days performing this otherwise perfectly respectable job. But she kept on saying “I don’t know,” and these words led her, not just once but twice, to Stockholm, where restless, questing spirits are occasionally rewarded with the Nobel Prize…”

yes, may we earthlings consciously choose to follow the sacred calling of this moment to enter the inner wilderness of transformative imagination, of not knowing, of wondering for it is the surrender to not knowing that seeds our co-creation of a sustainable universe where all relatives flourish… strength and courage, beloveds!

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 132 – 4/27/2021

on this earth day in the portal of beltane in the northern hemisphere and samhain in the south when the veils are thin and fairies dance , will you join me in listening to an ancient story of opening our hearts to our true nature of wisdom, of radiance, an incandescence, a fire that always burns fiercely, magnificently at the core of being no matter how overwhelming things are for our little selves… notice where this story pulls you as we walk home together under the almost full moon on the path of transformation…

once upon a time, a young woman was feeling abandoned and overwhelmed at the loss of love… fear clutched her, overwhelmed her and she went searching for a cure for love in the marketplaces, in the temples and nothing would open her heart… she heard tell of a sage who lived in a cave high up on a mountain that towered over her village and so she began the arduous journey to connect with the sage within the cave… she found him bent over a fire in the cave and asked if he had a cure for love and he asks her to return in three days for an answer and she sits in the unknowing of whether there’s a cure and returns as requested…

the sage tells her he has all the ingredients for a love cure save one – would she be willing to get this ingredient? of course she would, nothing was as important… the sage tells her she needed to bring him the whisker of a living tiger, a whisker from around his mouth close to his teeth… she protests that she is not up to such a dangerous assignment and he reminds her that she said she would gladly find the one missing ingredient and so she makes her way down the mountain and back to her hut where she continues to contemplate this overwhelming task while feeling more abandoned than ever… as she eats her dinner of rice, it comes to her that tigers have to eat as well and she fixes a bowl of rice for the man-eating tiger that lives on the other side of the mountain from the sage… she re-members that tigers aren’t vegetarian and adds some meat sauce for the tiger and takes off up the mountain to find the tiger… when she reaches a place where fear would not let her go any further, she left the bowl and made her way back to the hut…

night after night, she would venture back in search of the tiger, stepping over the empty bowl and going a little further and leaving another full bowl… one night as she was stepping over the previous night’s empty bowl, she saw the tiger coming towards her and she said that she meant him no harm and that she was on a mission for her soul… as he ate his nightly offering, she summoned her courage and plucked a whisker from his mouth and he pretended not to notice…

dancing down the mountain, the young woman couldn’t wait to return to the sage… the next morning, she made her way to the sage and handed him the whisker which he dropped into the fire and she watched the missing ingredient turn to ash… outraged, she asked why the sage did that and he asked her how she’d been able to accomplish such an impossible task… she recounted how each night she had faced her fear and made her way up the mountain to find the tiger… the sage then asked if the her heart was more dangerous than the heart of a tiger and she real-eyesed that in facing her fears, her heart opened… she now knew her heart, her fear, her soul… she journeyed to the wise center of being and to the fierce, magnificent radiance on the other side of the coin, so to speak…

facing the depths of the ocean of being is overwhelming… sitting in the timeless feelings of abandon and not abandoning ourselves, sitting in the fear and taking one more step is the eternal way of opening the heart ever more widely… fear is the thoroughfare of transformation… so when fear rises , know the true self is calling you into being more of the fullest expression of your true self…

let us close with day four of the forty day practice of repeating the shabad 11 times or for 11 minutes daily so that we can rewrite the destiny of the earth and adjust our habits to develop new habits that serve the most expansive and deepest good for Mother Earth and all…

“When the earth is in distress, it attunes itself with love and sends out a prayer.

The True One hears it, and with total ease is pleased to give Its strength and steadiness.

It sends a command to the Power of Rain, and the rain pours down in torrents.

The wealth of grain and corn grows thick.

A person cannot describe its value.

Oh Naanak, appreciate the Divine Identity.

You, Divine One, cause the life-giving food to be given to all the creatures.

Eating this, peace grows, and the cycle of pain comes no more.”

“If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.”

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 131 – 4/26/2021

this Scorpio Full Moon shining with the Taurus Sun is also known as the pink supermoon as it comes in the northern hemisphere at the threshold of the full blossoming of Spring, and is the most feminine energy moon of the thirteen moons… imagined as a clover field, this moon is ripe with luck. abundance and finding and awakening to metaphorical four leaf clovers, our own pearls of great price…

the pearl represents our true self, whose enlightenment and wisdom are the manifestation of this true self.. like the Buddha who once sat under a full moon and received enlightenment, we are invited to face our shadows and harvest the gifts and treasures hidden within which releases our true self to arise from the ashes of these old personal and collective stories and to rebirth completely new stories…

so let us come into sacred space sitting around the children’s fire and call in the spirits of the four directions and thank the directions and pachamama and papatata and great mystery for the abundance of blessings bestowed on us…

now, let us release our old domesticated skin into the fire so that we come into our true wild nature… let us call forth from the fire of purification what is ready to blossom in us in this moment of eternity, of rapid transformation re-membering we are all children of the same mother… finally, let’s dedicate this to all those who are suffering and in need of healing and sealing this blessing with a four fold breath four times….

let us close with day three of the forty day practice of repeating the shabad 11 times or for 11 minutes daily so that we can rewrite the destiny of the earth and adjust our habits to develop new habits that serve the most expansive and deepest good for Mother Earth and all…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 130 – 4/25/2021

welcome, well come to this moment of eternity when we celebrate the astonishing light of our being and i’m so delighted that this image that i’ve/ we’ve been calling in for years showed up in just the right timing for this very special moment, a moment that’s been hard to get to tonight which has me re-membering it’s the impeded stream that sings, so, may this stream sing wildly el canto hondo, the deep soul song…

i will turn now to the creatrix and midwife of this painting, this image that moves me so deeply for us all to luxuriate in her offering… afterwards, in closing, i’ll repost the shabad from last night – at least one other being is committing to the invitation for the forty day practice of repeating the shabad 11 times or for 11 minutes daily so that we can rewrite the destiny of the earth and adjust our habits to develop new habits that serve the highest good for Mother Earth and all… now, onto the poem and then the shabad…

may we weave an even more beautiful world with with all the seen and unseen weavers of the web…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 129 – 4/24/2021

everyday is earthmother day and on this day when we are reminded what we do to the web we do to ourselves, let’s optimize this moment of eternity with intending for our earthmother together… Guru Amar Das wrote this Shabad in India hundreds of years ago; let us we practice it today to bring healing: “When the Earth calls out in distress, the One answers with ease and strength, and there is peace in the land.”

this Shabad helps us as human beings break any negative habits that block us from the expansion of awareness…

by reciting this Shabad 11 times a day or for 11 minutes for 40 days as a global community, it is said we can rewrite the destiny of the earth and adjust our habits to develop new habits that serve the highest good for Mother Earth and all, i’m in -and you?

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 128 – 4/23/2021

every day is a celebrating of our mother, a resounding of our commitment with our bounteous cosmos/with ourselves… for today’s celebration and psalm of cosmic adoration, i turn to an eco-poet, environmental activist and sacred sage of farsightedness to walk with us home along the green path into beloved community…

Evening Thoughts: Reflecting on Earth As Sacred Community

“It takes a universe to bring humans into being, a universe to educate humans, a universe to fulfill the human mode of being. More immediately, it takes a solar system and a planet Earth to shape, educate, and fulfill the human.

We can explain nothing if we cannot explain the whole. Our explanation of any part of the universe is integral to our understanding of the universe itself.

…we must think about and respond to the urgency of a renewal of the integral community of life systems throughout the Earth. Renewal is a community project.

What is needed is a new pattern of rapport with the planet. Here we come to the critical transformation needed in the emotional, aesthetic, spiritual, and religious orders of life. Only a change that profound in human consciousness can remedy the deep cultural pathology manifest in such destructive behavior. Such change is not possible, however, so long as we fail to appreciate the planet that provides us with a world abundant in the volume and variety of food for our nourishment, a world exquisite in supplying beauty of form, sweetness of taste, delicate fragrances for our enjoyment, and exciting challenges for us to overcome with skill and action. The poets and artists can help restore this sense of rapport with the natural world. It is this renewed sense of reciprocity with nature, in all of its complexity and remarkable beauty, that can help provide the psychic and spiritual energies necessary for the work ahead.

We come into being in and through the Earth. Simply put, we are Earthlings. The Earth is our origin, our nourishment, our educator, our healer, our fulfillment. At its core, even our spirituality is Earth derived. The human and the Earth are totally implicated, each in the other. If there is no spirituality in the Earth, then there is no spirituality in ourselves.

We need a spirituality that emerges our of a reality deeper than ourselves, a spirituality that is as deep as the Earth process itself, a spirituality born out of the solar system and even out of the heavens beyond the solar system. For it is in the stars that the primordial elements take shape in both their physical and psychic aspects. Out of these elements the solar system and Earth took shape, and out of Earth, ourselves.

In our contemplation of how tragic moments of disintegration over the course of the centuries were followed by immensely creative moments of renewal, we receive our great hope for the future. To initiate and guide this next creative moment of the story of the Earth is the Great Work of the religions of the world as we move on into the future.”

may we live the dream of the earth and take the great work on…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 127 – 4/22/2021

Happy B’Earth Day!

wow – what an auspicious and synchronous day is today – another day of celebrating our earthmother and this day is the 51st Earth Day Celebration along with two sacred B’earthdays – my soul and the 3rd birthday of a sacred soul family’s birth and a crowning glory of getting to in joy this day with some of my very favorite beings on the planet and speaking of crowning glories, i love this picture of our island home with her corona, her crown shining brightly reheartening us to re-member the birthing process is dark and difficult coming through the birth canal and then the crowning and the birth of astonishing light…

yes, feeling into the astonishing light crowning our beautiful mother brings me into the sacred space of appreciation and reverence for the miraculous gifts of beauty and radical regeneration mama gaia is and bestows on us, so, let’s take this moment of eternity to conspire, breathe together, shall we?

breathe feelings of peace and love through your heart, our one heart for a few minutes to sync us into the rhythm of our beloved earth… you might want to put a hand over the heart and/or the belly to anchor into the deep earth of being…

now, connect in the heart with all relatives around the planet as we feel appreciation and care for our Earth… feel the collective heart power amplifying the effectiveness of our care…

hold a vision of a pristine restoration for all of nature — oceans, rivers, trees, plants, animals, stars, clouds, minerals…

now see the crown of shining lights as a ring of compassionate heart energy surrounding our planet and see it dissipating humanity’s separation and lack of harmonious cooperation… see all our relations awakening more deeply with an energetic connection with our true nature and understanding our feelings and thoughts and behavior patterns affect cosmic harmony…

take a few minutes each day, if possible, to envision an increasing momentum of people opening their hearts and putting love and heart-felt connection into action…

let’s close this breathing together, this conspiring by sending our compassionate care to all who are experiencing grief and trauma and stress from all the crises we are suffering in this moment of dying to the old to birth the new as your heart, our one heart guides the way…

may we listen deeply to mama gaia, emulate her devocean and compassion and be as she is – holy/wholly vessels of love

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 126 – 4/21/2021

“There’s a revolution that needs to happen and it starts from inside each one of us.”

~ Thich Nhat Hanh ~

just as i wrote yesterday of the demand for revolutionary change, i write of revolution again today as we approach the fifty-first year of globally celebrating our earthmother and her children in this sacred moment of great turning and cosmic rite of passage… the revolution i write of today is one of consciousness, a bold adventure the cosmos invites us to explore as foretold in other moments of eternity by the grandmothers…

there came a time when the grandmothers noticed it was the moment to focus on the good of the village and to remind the earthlings of how to be… they called in the spirits of the ancestors and the teachers and the unborn generations and the spirit of fire to kindle a flame which they nurtured and tendered and placed in the center of the wisdom council where the villagers sat in circle…

the grandmothers called on all the relatives to take a pledge repeating these words… in every action, in every thought, in every decision, i promise to hold the good of the children of all beings in this generation and for seven generations hence and this is my sacred vow…

may all of us tend the inner flame supported by the communion of the invisible realms holding in our one heart and living out this sacred calling to always put first the good of the whole, to do what is best for the children…

and then, peace prevails on earth…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 125 – 4/20/2021

“‘Let Justice roll down like waters in a mighty stream,’ said the Prophet Amos. He was seeking not consensus but the cleansing action of revolutionary change.”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr ~

today, we breathe a sigh of relief as the murderer of George Floyd was held to account and found guilty on all counts of digging his knee into George Floyd’s neck killing him as the world watched in horror and in broad daylight for nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds as the life was choked out of this being who kept saying he could not breathe while calling out for his mother…

we have yet to see justice for George Floyd – that would look like George being alive and dancing with his daughter but today was a small step towards the beginning of the revolutionary change this moment demands… revolutionary change that dismantles the oppressive system of white supremacy embedded in the very founding of the United States and puts in place a real democracy where every being is valued and equal justice under the law is the right of everyone…

our hearts continue to go out today to George Floyd’s family and community and to Ma’Khia’s and Daunte’s and Adam’s and Breonna’s and Travon’s and Eric’s and Freddie’s and Philando’s and Ahmaud’s and Mike’s and Tamir’s and Sandra’s and Ton’s and on and on and on…

let us take this moment of eternity for us all to join hands forming a bridge across the planet and stand in love for love being justice in every thought, word and deed listening to a litany from the Reverend Dr Yolanda Pierce, the first woman to be appointed as Howard University’s Dean in the Divinity School’s 150-year history, a litany of healing feeling to me like those cleansing waters of justice…

…”Let us mourn black and brown men and women, those killed extrajudicially every 28 hours.

Let us lament the loss of a man, dead at the hands of a police officer who described him as a demon.

Let us weep at a criminal justice system, which is neither blind nor just.

Let us call for the mourning men and the wailing women, those willing to rend their garments of privilege and ease, and sit in the ashes of this nation’s original sin.

Let us be silent when we don’t know what to say.

Let us be humble and listen to the pain, rage, and grief pouring from the lips of our neighbors and friends.

Let us decrease, so that our brothers and sisters who live on the underside of history may increase.

Let us pray with our eyes open and our feet firmly planted on the ground.

Let us listen to the shattering glass and let us smell the purifying fires, for it is the language of the unheard.

God, in your mercy…

Show me my own complicity in injustice.

Convict me for my indifference.

Forgive me when I have remained silent.

Equip me with a zeal for righteousness.

Never let me grow accustomed or acclimated to unrighteousness.”

yes, we have a long road to overturn generations and generations and generations of oppression and still i am inspired by a memory when i was eleven and standing in a sea of black people quietly singing we shall overcome as we mourned the death of another person working for justice,,,

let us take this moment to affirm our commitment to justice and a world where everyone feels safe and respected as a valued member of the family of earthlings and to act unceasingly to bring this to bear beginning with calling your senators to support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 124 – 4/19/2021

in this moment of eternity, i find myself once again with grandmother spider in the cave of wisdom gestating in earthmother’s womb as she weaves the web of our wandering star creating a beautiful tapestry…

as the old native american story goes, grandmother leaves the weaving for a moment to go and stir the pot of nature seeds and in the interlude, her beloved dog comes over and starts pulling a thread unraveling the beautiful web… ah yes, the great unraveling, coming apart at the seams, chaos and collapse…

we each have so much to learn from grandmother in these potent times of betwixt and between in the cave of wisdom… what does grandmother do in response to the crisis of unraveling? throw up her hands and rail at the gods? reactively act from fear? our ever creative spider picks up a thread and begins weaving an even more beautiful world inviting us to do the same…

and so we are called as well, in this crisis, in this moment of danger and great opportunity to pick up our thread, what is ours to weave for the good of the whole… out of chaos comes creation, yes, it takes chaos to give birth to dancing stars…

take heart, beloveds and follow your thread becoming one with it, one with the cosmic flow being a rainbow thread of luminosity in the web of great mystery enfolded in the embrace of our radically regenerating earthmother…
