Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 10 – Day 49 – 2/3/2023

welcome to a holy trifecta of energies today… it is the actual day of soular imbolc when aquarius is right at 15 degrees with more light coming into the northern hemisphere balanced by more dark coming into the southern hemishere and the fifth day, the quintessential day of celebrating a season of peace and Ceres, the planet ofmotherhood and nourishment is retrograde which has me returning to imbolc when the lambs are born under the snow moon which will be full on Sunday in my neck of the woods and new life is nourished…

this reverie takes me back into this moonth of black history and back to 1958 when Dr King, a young man of 29 was stabbed by a woman as he signed copies of his first book at a store in Harlem… later that night while recovering from the near fatal stabbing, one of his mentors, the Reverend Howard Thurman visited him and offered a rather unique kind of advice: “You must deepen your channels,” or the movement will “swallow you up.” Thurman, hailed as one the great preachers of the twentieth century, pointedly asked Dr. King to cultivate inner transformation and unlock new resources to meet the magnitude of the moment with grace…

in this moment of eternity when compounding challenges threaten to swallow us up, the Reverend Thurman’s question to Dr. King feels pertinent for all of us: how do we deepen our channels, ignite what Gandhi would call “Soul Force”, and become instruments for a subtler collective intelligence? as Dr King said, “We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” i have spoken before of the 4 pillars of Gandhi’s sacred activism and want to reiterate them hoping they may be a source of nourishment:

Swaraj which Gandhi described as an awakening of an inner voice… “There is in every person an inward sea, and in that sea there is an island and on that island there is an altar and standing guard before that altar is the ‘angel with the flaming sword.’ Nothing can get by that angel to be placed upon that altar unless it has the mark of your inner authority. Nothing passes ‘the angel with the flaming sword’ to be placed upon your altar unless it be a part of ‘the fluid area of your consent.’ This is your crucial link with the Eternal.” ~ Howard Thurman ~

Satyagraha meaning abiding in the eternal and calling us to step into seeming opposition re-membering we are one with all and each living being is more than the sum of our actions…

Ahimsa isan active presence of a creative love that gracefully responds to the challenges of the world trusting in the collective flow of “soul force”…

Sarvodaya is the upliftment of all without exception…

may we all deepen our channels by refining our antennas to dial into our inner voice, compost opposition into connection, dive into our inward sea to become an instrument of collective “soul force” and embrace co-creating a world that works for all…
