Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 319 – 10/31/2021

as darkness draws near, reflect on the year

as light goes within, let the hollowing dance begin…

today as we celebrate a treasure trove of riches, let’s begin with the astonishing light of our inner being/interbeing by opening to the lamp of our one cosmic heart being lit by a thousand fold lights…

now that we are feeling the inner light, let’s move on to the dancing in the dark that samhain, all hallows eve, all hollows eve constellates, for on this very night, it is known to those initiated in the great mysteries that both the souls of the trapped will be freed and that the inverse reality of the souls serving the other side of the underworld will  come topside to create their own ability to remain amongst the world of the living… this gateway creates an opportunity to repent, clear karma, raise consciousness and return to love once more…

great homage is given in this portal to the ancestors who come and go by the making of potions and preparation of food made for both the living and for those loved ones who have passed and are unable to participate in the physical expression of ingesting the libation offerings…

the celebration of the energies of this profound portal  represent the veils of consciousness thinning within us, our hollowing, hallowing and our ability to transcend darkness and density into light as we metaphorically bubble in the cauldron of transformation with the potions where we move from death to rebirth in a sangha field, true refuge in the rains’ deluge… sacred space built on compassion, generosity, harmony and lovingkindness with a mission to eradicate all suffering… in this place devoted to honoring the ancestors while serving all with every breath a practice of dharma, every breath an exhalation of love, we arrive and come home to our one cosmic heart living with all in harmony…

may we all breathe together… may we all breathe together more and more loving presence and more and more trust and more and more surrender into the creative process of love where we are all walking each other home into the heart of the present moment, the only moment, the all that is… may we all breathe together in perfect cosmic harmony where all is well eternally…

and this intention of our all walking each other home into the heart of the present moment brings me to one more of the treasure trove of riches on this day of blessing the space within us as we close out this moon of odyssea, magical mystery tour, and i recall that seven years ago on this turn of the wheel i announced that i would be leaving the community of creatives wher i’d been dwelling to move into blissness blue moon lodge #7 and now as i move ever more deeply into the eighth decade of this incarnation, looks like i’ll be moving shortly into blissness blue moon lodge #8 releasing the challenges of the past 11+ moons of living in a place with contaminated water where we have been advised to leave due to the danger to our lives and rebirthing in a healthy watery womb with more deeply opening to wandering in wonder and weaving the new world with wisdom…

love, love, love from the moon above and this night of the dark portal from whence we all come and will return… tending the fires and stirring the cauldron of transformation are calling us, singing us – may we hollow in and answer the call….

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 318 – 10/30/2021

“Each day has a moment of eternity waiting for you. Each day has a portal, a threshold, a liminal moment in which everything could open up and reveal itself to the eye that can see.” ~ WilliamBlake ~

the pacific northwest provides a perfect backdrop today for  the eve of all hallow’s eve, an ancient celtic fire festival  known as samhain…  a season for leaping into the void and welcoming the oncoming darkness and accompanying reflection cycle while honoring the spirits now present during the thinning of veils between upper and lower worlds… yes, the pacific northwest serves as a perfect backdrop with her blustery winds and earth softened soil ready to receive divination and other worldly communications in this season of letting all fall away, of coming home to quintessence, coming home to the present moment, to the breath of eternal life…

surrendering to this natural movement of our soul, can and must bring forth pieces of the personal and collective shadow needing to come into the light for healing, evolving, becoming… yes to letting the hallows dance of this sacred life portal begin!

in this liminal space, we prepare the nest for the birth of the new, a sacred space for us to be like shedding snakes or trees… shedding our old skins or leaves and resting in the dark while the fire turns to ash and is spread on the earth to germinate the new…

thanks bee for this portal to reflect on what to die to, what to let go of as we embark on a journey of trust and surrender into the unknown… a portal of connecting with ancestors and the unchanging wisdom of the sages, as they teach the truth of there is no separation… no veils, no closed doors, no locked gates… in this moment of eternity, let us release limitation and loosen the sail of imagination… let us valorously sally forth and stand unconditionally in a gathering of our one cosmic heart of boundless love…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 317 – 10/29/2021

fifty-nine years ago on this very day when i was a child of eleven years, the cuban missle crisis came to an end bringing with it a collective sigh of relief that our better angels had prevailed, in deed, fear was reborn as courage, our one heart opened expansively…

today, as everyday, as every moment of eternity, we can choose to presence the astonishing light of interbeing into our lives and welcome this moment as openly as a hollow reed… bearing witness to the viruses of fear, separation and dominance while mourning the injustices of the world and taking compassionate actions of waging peace and lovingkindness, returning to the cosmic rhythm of harmony and re-membering and celebrating our ability to turn lead to gold, fear to courage…

~

“Do not be daunted
by the enormity
of the world’s grief.
Do justly, now.
Love mercy, now.
Walk humbly, now.
You are not obligated
to complete the work,
but neither are you free
to abandon it.”
~ The Talmud ~

~

let us perfume this moment of deep descent into the portal of transformation with the ancient words of the ho’oponopono purification chant:

i’m so sorry

please forgive me

thank you

i love you

~

and now, may we rest in…

SWEET DARKNESS

“When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.
It’s time to go into the night
where the dark has eyes
to recognize its own.
It’s time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you
can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will make a home for you tonight.
The night
will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.”

~ David Whyte ~

thanks bee for this day, this moment of dan-sing in the dark, in great mystery, until we awaken to the light that is always with us, inspiriting the pathless path of our soul song with courage, great heart to take one more step, simply one more step, one more breath…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 316 – 10/28/2021

“What in your life is calling you,
When all the noise is silenced,
The meetings adjourned…
The lists laid aside,
And the Wild Iris blooms
By itself
In the dark forest…
What still pulls on your soul?”

~ Rumi ~

today’s call is to silence all noise, adjourn all meetings and lay lists aside to enter the sacred grove deep within the crystalline forest to be with what pulls on my soul when the stream is impeded… synchronistically, the young being i spend the day with is in a transition spot as well – he’s so tired and unable to let go so i rock the baby and sing to him until we are in the rhythm of rest-oration and as he sleeps peacefully, the stream sings to me, relaxing me into the perfectly choreographed dance of life… in closing this be-wilder-ing moment of eternity ceremony, i listen to the words of beloved ancestor, Mary Oliver…..

In Blackwater Woods

“…To live in this world you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.”

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 315 – 10/27/2021

in honor of this day of celebrating Lhabab Duchen, the anniversary of Shakyamuni Buddha’s return to Earth after spending three months in the god realms teaching his mother, this is a day for making prayers and practicing virtue, as all merit created on this special day is multiplied 100 million times… join me in a long moment of eternity sharing a wonderful practice to begin and end the day with, a wonder-filled way to luxuriate in reverence by being gratitude, a way the Haudenosaunee open every gathering… this is a shortened form that i’ve been given permission to share…

Greetings to the Natural World

“Today we have gathered and we see that the cycles of life continue. We have been given the duty to live in balance and harmony with each other and all living things. So now, we bring our minds together as one as we give greetings and thanks to each other as people.

Now our minds are one.

We are all thankful to our Mother, the Earth, for she gives us all that we need for life. She supports our feet as we walk about upon her. It gives us joy that she continues to care for us as she has from the beginning of time. To our mother, we send greetings and thanks.

Now our minds are one.

We give thanks to all the waters of the world for quenching our thirst and providing us with strength. Water is life. We know its power in many forms- waterfalls and rain, mists and streams, rivers and oceans. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to the spirit of Water.

Now our minds are one.

We turn our minds to the all the Fish life in the water. They were instructed to cleanse and purify the water. They also give themselves to us as food. We are grateful that we can still find pure water. So, we turn now to the Fish and send our greetings and thanks.

Now our minds are one.

Now we turn toward the vast fields of Plant life. As far as the eye can see, the Plants grow, working many wonders. They sustain many life forms. With our minds gathered together, we give thanks and look forward to seeing Plant life for many generations to come.

Now our minds are one.

With one mind, we turn to honor and thank all the Food Plants we harvest from the garden. Since the beginning of time, the grains, vegetables, beans and berries have helped the people survive. Many other living things draw strength from them too. We gather all the Plant Foods together as one and send them a greeting of thanks.

Now our minds are one.

Now we turn to all the Medicine herbs of the world. From the beginning they were instructed to take away sickness. They are always waiting and ready to heal us. We are happy there are still among us those special few who remember how to use these plants for healing. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to the Medicines and to the keepers of the Medicines.

Now our minds are one.

We gather our minds together to send greetings and thanks to all the Animal life in the world. They have many things to teach us as people. We are honored by them when they give up their lives so we may use their bodies as food for our people. We see them near our homes and in the deep forests. We are glad they are still here and we hope that it will always be so.

 Now our minds are one.

We now turn our thoughts to the Trees. The Earth has many families of Trees who have their own instructions and uses. Some provide us with shelter and shade, others with fruit, beauty and other useful things. Many people of the world use a Tree as a symbol of peace and strength. With one mind, we greet and thank the Tree life.

Now our minds are one.

We put our minds together as one and thank all the Birds who move and fly about over our heads. The Creator gave them beautiful songs. Each day they remind us to enjoy and appreciate life. The Eagle was chosen to be their leader. To all the Birds-from the smallest to the largest-we send our joyful greetings and thanks.

Now our minds are one.

We are all thankful to the powers we know as the Four Winds. We hear their voices in the moving air as they refresh us and purify the air we breathe. They help us to bring the change of seasons. From the four directions they come, bringing us messages and giving us strength. With one mind, we send our greetings and thanks to the Four Winds.

Now our minds are one.

Now we turn to the west where our grandfathers, the Thunder Beings, live. With lightning and thundering voices, they bring with them the water that renews life. We are thankful that they keep those evil things made by Okwiseres underground. We bring our minds together as one to send greetings and thanks to our Grandfathers, the Thunderers.

Now our minds are one.

We now send greetings and thanks to our eldest Brother, the Sun. Each day without fail he travels the sky from east to west, bringing the light of a new day. He is the source of all the fires of life. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Brother, the Sun.

Now our minds are one.

We put our minds together to give thanks to our oldest Grandmother, the Moon, who lights the night-time sky. She is the leader of woman all over the world, and she governs the movement of the ocean tides. By her changing face we measure time, and it is the Moon who watches over the arrival of children here on Earth. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Grandmother, the Moon.

 Now our minds are one.

We give thanks to the Stars who are spread across the sky like jewelry. We see them in the night, helping the Moon to light the darkness and bringing dew to the gardens and growing things. When we travel at night, they guide us home. With our minds gathered together as one, we send greetings and thanks to the Stars.

Now our minds are one.

We gather our minds to greet and thank the enlightened Teachers who have come to help throughout the ages. When we forget how to live in harmony, they remind us of the way we were instructed to live as people. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to these caring teachers.

 Now our minds are one.

Now we turn our thoughts to the Creator, or Great Spirit, and send greetings and thanks for all the gifts of Creation. Everything we need to live a good life is here on this Mother Earth. For all the love that is still around us, we gather our minds together as one and send our choicest words of greetings and thanks to the Creator.

 Now our minds are one.

We have now arrived at the place where we end our words. Of all the things we have named, it was not our intention to leave anything out. If something was forgotten, we leave it to each individual to send such greetings and thanks in their own way.

Now our minds are one.”

blessed be…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 314 – 10/26/2021

thousand fold thanks for the weird people, creative rebels, imaginal cells of real-eye-sing… those astonishing lights of being who rekindle our flame by setting their lives on fire and fanning the flames of and for all relatives in the field… it has been said that when living in a dark time such as we are living in, it is the creatives, those with the courage, the heart to follow their weird, their genius, their sacred call, to devotedly give themselves to the soul song that inspirits, these are the ones, the ones awakened to the mystical level who thrive in the dark times; the good news is that we all have the potential to real-eyes our true self…

i love that this quest ion of following your weird that showed up so emphatically as i began my seventh decade this go around is resurrecting even more emphatically as i take flight into the eighth decade with the energy of infinity as the melody… let’s come together now and conspire, breathe together deeply as we visual-eyes ourselves in the most sacred of spaces, the crystal we are and embody the energies of this blessingway…

~ Beatitudes for the Weird ~
by Jacob Nordby

“Blessed are the weird people
—poets, misfits, writers, mystics
heretics, painters & troubadours—
for they teach us to see the world through different eyes

Blessed are those who embrace the intensity of life’s pain and pleasure,
for they shall be rewarded with uncommon ecstasy.

Blessed are ye who see beauty in ugliness,
for you shall transform our vision of how the world might be.

Blessed are the bold and whimsical,
for their imagination shatters ancient boundaries of fear for us all.

Blessed are ye who are mocked for unbridled expression of love in all its forms, because your kind of crazy is exactly that freedom for which the world is unconsciously begging.

Blessed are those who have endured breaking by life,
for they are the resplendent cracks through which the light shines.”

may we all be blessed to be weird devoting ourselves to embodying this manifesto for mystics as we wander in wonder throughout and within the crystalline clear light of the boundless skysea of love energy…

and, may we be weirdness, daimons for each other giving strength and consolation fully real-eye-sing that the cup of life is a cup of sorrow that opens the compassionate cup of joy warming the cup of sorrow that opens our one heart ever wider to the compassionate cup of joy endlessly…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 313 – 10/25/2021

giving birth to imaginal cellf

dewy wings warmed by the sun

waxing with moon, rising from sea

free and easy wandering throughout infinity

soaring and singing throughout the multiversity

always resting in the still silence of the cavernous heart of luminosity

~

“It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,
and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.”

~ Wendell Berry ~

ah yes, chaos gives birth to a dancing star, to renewal, to cosm, to cosmos, to implicate order…

“As is the human body, so is the cosmic body.
As is the human mind, so is the cosmic mind.
As is the microcosm, so is the macrocosm.
As is the atom, so is the universe”
~ The Upanishads ~

~

thank you chaos/primordial space for gestating a  dancing blue star down the birth canal tunnel through  a long dark night with  moments of questioning would there be light… a long dark night to contemplate flow and how to proceed when it’s a no go… a long dark night of staying present, of trusting, of surrendering until the sun rises and reveals the way to be in flow… breathing in, inspiring; breathing out, releasing a dancing star…

aloha! beings of the blue star light, beings of the chaotic, turbulent long night, beings of the cosmic/human body mind spirit soul, being that turns lead into gold integrating interbeingness into true self/cellf…

loving, serving, re-membering that when we merge our internal rhythms with the rhythms of creation, we develop effortless grace in our movement and are able to slide into our perfectly ordered, choreographed dance of life…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 312 – 10/24/2021

blessed be in this moment of eternity of a treasure trove of riches – it’s the moment to celebrate the astonishing light of our interbeing, global oneness day and on this very day 76 years ago, the UN was founded and one year ago today Honduras became the 50th country to ratify the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons with 50 as the magic number for this treaty which is a huge milestone in the decades-long effort to eliminate nuclear weapons and it officially entered into force 90 days later…

thanks be for more nations of the world adding their voices to the chorus demanding the elimination of nuclear weapons thus paving the way for a world of peace which is the future we want – a world free from threats of mass destruction – and is on the tip of our consciousness… as more and more people around the world take up the cause of delegitimizing the arsenals of the nuclear nations, we must hold nuclear-armed nations to account for these weapons are an urgent existential threat to human and all other sentient beings security…

may we continue to stand together in love and hope re-membering ourstory is built on compassion, sacrifice, courage and loving kindness as we listen to the whispered wisdom of this prayer…

“Let our standing be a mindful gesture:  mindful of the ground on which we are standing, the one little plot of land on this earth not belonging to one nation, but to all nations united.  It is a very small piece of land, indeed, but it is a symbol of human concord, a symbol of the truth that this poor, mistreated earth belongs to all of us together.

As we stand, then, like plants standing on a good plot of ground, let us sink our roots deep into our hidden unity.  Allow yourself to feel what it means to stand and to extend your inner roots.

Rooted in the soil of the heart, let us expose ourselves to the wind of the Spirit, the one Spirit who moves all who let themselves be moved.  Let us breathe deeply the breath of the one Spirit.

Let our standing bear witness that we take a stand on common ground.

Let our standing be an expression of reverence for all those who before us have taken a stand for human unity.

Let us stand with reverence on the ground of our common human endeavor, joining all those who stood on this ground, from the first shaper of tools to the engineers of the most complex machines and institutions.

Let us stand with reverence on the common ground of the human quest for meaning, side by side with all who ever stood on this ground in their searching thought, in their celebration of beauty, in their dedicated service.

Let us stand in reverence before all those who on our common ground stood up to be counted, stood up – and were cut down.

Let us remember that to stand up as we have now stood up implies a readiness to lay down one’s life for that for which one stands.

Let us stand in awe before those thousands upon thousands – known and unknown – who have laid down their lives for the common cause of our human family.

Let us stand and bow our heads, because we stand under judgment.

We stand under judgment, for ‘One is the human Spirit.’  If we are one with the heroes and prophets, we are also one with those who persecuted and killed them.  One with the henchmen as we are one with the victims.  We all share the glory of human greatness and the shame of human failure.

Allow me to invite you now to focus your mind on the most inhuman act of destruction you can find in your memory.  And now take this, together with all human violence, all human greed, injustice, stupidity, hypocrisy, all human misery, and lift it all up, with all the strength of your heart, into the stream of compassion and healing that pulsates through the heart of the world – that center in which all our hearts are one.  This is not an easy gesture.  It may almost seem too difficult for some of us.  But until we can reach and tap with our deepest roots this common source of concord and compassion, we have not yet claimed within our own hearts that oneness that is our common human birthright.

Standing firm, then, in this oneness, let us close our eyes.

Let us close our eyes to bring home to ourselves our blindness as we face the future.

Let us close our eyes to focus our minds on the inner light, our one common light, in whose brightness we shall be able to walk together even in the dark.

Let us close our eyes as a gesture of trust in the guidance of the one Spirit who will move us if we open our hearts.

‘One is the human Spirit,’ but the human Spirit is more than human, because the human heart is unfathomable.  Into this depth let us silently sink our roots.  There lies our only source of peace.

In a moment, when I will invite you to open again your eyes, I will invite you also to turn in this Spirit to the person next to you with greeting of peace.  Let our celebration culminate and conclude in this gesture, by which we will send one another forth as messengers of peace.  Let us do this now.

Peace be with you all!”

amazingly, this prayer was not created for today’s day of action but was led by Brother David Steindl-Rast at a gathering of spiritual leaders on the 30th Anniversary of the United Nations, October 24, 1975.

let us stand together in peace for peace re-membering our birthright is of  compassionate lovingkindness…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 311 – 10/23/2021

“Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.”
― Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

did you awaken as did i to this moment of eternity re-membering that the cosm, the mysterious implicate order with every breath is making an irresistible offer? thousand fold thanks, Desiree, and everyone for conspiring to gift me/us with so many moments of savoring these almost twenty-nine hundred days of  awakening initiation into wedding and weaving the cosmic I AM presence into the lush field of the divine matrix, of love after love…

“Love After Love

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.”

~Derek Walcott~

may we all, in this moment, no matter where we are, take this moment to feel the support of the vast skysea, our earthmother who loves us so and all the trillions and trillions of cells of our one body and to sit and feast on the dance of life…

Poetic Peace Pilgrimage – Year 8 – Day 310 – 10/22/2021

one of my devoceanal practices is to enter into each moment of eternity with living the quest ions; today in the midst of such an intense chaos cycle going on for so many moons and the emerge and see of the corona, the crowning in the birth process, i want to share a letter again that i shared back 20+ moons ago. a letter that for me is an important re-minder/re-heartener, a letter written to a young activist back in 2001 by a sistar jungian, the cantadora of colorado who’s traveling with us and inspiring us on the caravan of re-joy-sing…

Mis estimados queridos, My Esteemed Ones:

Do not lose heart. We were made for these times.

I have heard from so many recently who are deeply and properly bewildered. They are concerned about the state of affairs in our world right now. It is true, one has to have strong cojones and ovarios to withstand much of what passes for “good” in our culture today. Abject disregard of what the soul finds most precious and irreplaceable and the corruption of principled ideals have become, in some large societal arenas, ‘the new normal,’ the grotesquerie of the week.

It is hard to say which one of the current egregious matters has rocked people’s worlds and beliefs more. Ours is a time of almost daily jaw-dropping astonishment and often righteous rage over the latest degradations of what matters most to civilized, visionary people.

…You are right in your assessments. The lustre and hubris some have aspired to while endorsing acts so heinous against children, elders, everyday people, the poor, the unguarded, the helpless, is breathtaking.

Yet … I urge you, ask you, gentle you, to please not spend your spirit dry by bewailing these difficult times. Especially do not lose hope. Most particularly because, the fact is – we were made for these times.

Yes. For years, we have been learning, practicing, been in training for and just waiting to meet on this exact plain of engagement. I cannot tell you often enough that we are definitely the leaders we have been waiting for, and that we have been raised, since childhood, for this time precisely.

…I grew up on the Great Lakes and recognize a seaworthy vessel when I see one. Regarding awakened souls, there have never been more able crafts in the waters than there are right now across the world. And they are fully provisioned and able to signal one another as never before in the history of humankind.

I would like to take your hands for a moment and assure you that you are built well for these times. Despite your stints of doubt, your frustrations in arighting all that needs change right now, or even feeling you have lost the map entirely, you are not without resource, you are not alone.

Look out over the prow; there are millions of boats of righteous souls on the waters with you. In your deepest bones, you have always known this is so.

Even though your veneers may shiver from every wave in this stormy roil, I assure you that the long timbers composing your prow and rudder come from a forest greater. That long-grained lumber is known to withstand storms, to hold together, to hold its own, and to advance, regardless.

… We have been in training for a dark time such as this, since the day we assented to come to Earth. For many decades, worldwide, souls just like us have been felled and left for dead in so many ways over and over — brought down by naiveté, by lack of love, by suddenly realizing one deadly thing or another, by not realizing something else soon enough, by being ambushed and assaulted by various cultural and personal shocks in the extreme.

We all have a heritage and history of being gutted, and yet remember this especially … we have also, of necessity, perfected the knack of resurrection.

Over and over again we have been the living proof that that which has been exiled, lost, or foundered – can be restored to life again. This is as true and sturdy a prognosis for the destroyed worlds around us as it was for our own once mortally wounded selves.

…Though we are not invulnerable, our risibility supports us to laugh in the face of cynics who say “fat chance,” and “management before mercy,” and other evidences of complete absence of soul sense. This, and our having been ‘to Hell and back’ on at least one momentous occasion, makes us seasoned vessels for certain. Even if you do not feel that you are, you are.

Even if your puny little ego wants to contest the enormity of your soul, the smaller self can never for long subordinate the larger Self. In matters of death and rebirth, you have surpassed the benchmarks many times. Believe the evidence of any one of your past testings and trials. Here it is: Are you still standing? The answer is, Yes! (And no adverbs like “barely” are allowed here). If you are still standing, ragged flags or no, you are able. Thus, you have passed the bar. And even raised it. You are seaworthy.

…In any dark time, there is a tendency to veer toward fainting over how much is wrong or unmended in the world. Do not focus on that. Do not make yourself ill with overwhelm. There is a tendency too to fall into being weakened by perseverating on what is outside your reach, by what cannot yet be. Do not focus there. That is spending the wind without raising the sails.

We are needed, that is all we can know. And though we meet resistance, we more so will meet great souls who will hail us, love us and guide us, and we will know them when they appear. Didn’t you say you were a believer? Didn’t you say you pledged to listen to a voice greater? Didn’t you ask for grace? Don’t you remember that to be in grace means to submit to the Voice greater? You have all the resource you need to ride any wave, to surface from any trough.

…In the language of aviators and sailors, ours is to sail forward now, all balls out. Understand the paradox: If you study the physics of a waterspout, you will see that the outer vortex whirls far more rapidly than the inner one. To calm the storm means to quiet the outer layer, to cause it, by whatever countervailing means, to swirl much less, to more evenly match the velocity of the inner, far less volatile core – till whatever has been lifted into such a vicious funnel falls back to Earth, lays down, is peaceable again.

One of the most important steps you can take to help calm the storm is to not allow yourself to be taken in a flurry of overwrought emotion or despair – thereby accidentally contributing to the swale and the swirl. Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.

Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely.

It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts – adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take “everyone on Earth” to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.

…One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times.

The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires … causes proper matters to catch fire. To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these – to be fierce and to show mercy toward others, both — are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.

…There will always be times in the midst of “success right around the corner, but as yet still unseen” when you feel discouraged. I too have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it; I will not entertain it. It is not allowed to eat from my plate.

The reason is this: In my uttermost bones I know something, as do you. It is that there can be no despair when you remember why you came to Earth, who you serve, and who sent you here. The good words we say and the good deeds we do are not ours: They are the words and deeds of the One who brought us here.

In that spirit, I hope you will write this on your wall: When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. But … that is not what great ships are built for.

…This comes with much love and prayer that you remember Who you came from, and why you came to this beautiful, needful Earth.”
