every outbreath, an emptying… every inbreath, a re-membering…

such a conscious quest i’mon these last two years to do just that – to awaken every wild cell in this body cell of the one body we all are and what an adventure transmuting the lead into gold…

for the last nine days, i’ve been in intense purification feeling into the anniversary of 730 days or 104 weeks of the deepest, most conscious awakening initiation ever inspired by my ruptured fire eye exploding in pain on 9/11 and for the second time in a couple of years, i was offered an invitation to go deeper into insight as outer sight was being severely compromised… as with all calls to initiation, i did not feel i had it in me to make this pilgrimage, and, yet in surrendering to  limited outer sight, a rhythm of  synchronisiddhi, of meaningful co-incidence followed opening my broken heart to a heart broken wide open… holy synchronicity, in this deep pool of reflection, a re-membering flows by… today is also the sixth anniversary of the first outer poetic peace pilgrimage, a day when i connected with Sacajawea who vowed to guide me through the wilder-ness…

approaching the beginning of the third year of awakening, it’s so interesting to be in the midst of a third challenge of saving eyesight which is catapulting me into the most profound letting go amplified by the loss of so much history and by the walking of the camino going from outer to inner…

this awakening project we call life guided by the enspirited soul emphatically, magnetically pulls me home to be an instrument of peace, a hollow reed, a channel for source energy to pour love through…

so, on a day such as this, under the spell of the moon waxing full, may we let go of  the inessential and re-member what truly matters is who we are…

souls dressed up in loose garments dancing/singing light between  the worlds…

every outbreath, an emptying… every inbreath, a re-membering…

walking the camino today is a day of deeply breathing and dancing in the chaos on this day of nines which is the number of transformation and is an energy resonating so profoundly through me on the ninth day of the ninth month as i take refuge in the blissness blue moon lodge, because blue moon lodges are the lodges for transformation, of transformation…

today’s walk along the camino of peace brings up the words of the Dalai Lama about our island home desperately needing more peacemakers, healers, restorers, lovers and storytellers which reminds me of an old legend of the first peoples of this land…

this legend about a savior named deganawida, the peacemaker, originated over a thousand years ago during the final decades of pre-columbian america at a time like now, a time of pervasive fear and instability in the iroquois world when a young virgin gave birth to a son… she was told in a dream that “your child will be a messenger of the creator and will bring peace and harmony to the people on earth.”

when deganawida came of age he told his mother, “I shall now build my canoe from white stone, for the time has come for me to start my mission in this world. I know I must travel afar on lakes and rivers to seek out the council smoke of nations beyond this lake. It is now time for me to go stop the shedding of blood among human beings.”

as deganawida began his mission he first encountered a group of hunters who were fleeing from the bloodshed in the their own village and he instructed them: “Go back to your people and tell them that the Good News of Peace and Righteousness has come to your nation.”

the peacemaker’s mission, as the many accounts of the legend make clear, was to reestablish the natural equilibrium on which the well being of individuals, societies, and the whole of creation depends… deganawida achieved this mission by healing them—by “making their minds straight.” deganawida’s role was not that of a warrior, but a redemptive shaman—a healer… he was quite explicit about the mission: “health means peace, for that is what comes when minds are sane and bodies are cared for.”

on this day of transformation, may we all be peacemakers every moment…

yes, make us instruments of thy peace and where there is hatred  let us sow love and where there is despair, hope and where there is darkness, light…

om, shanti, shanti, shantihi…

every outbreath, an emptying… every inbreath, a re-membering…

sometimes it’s hard to make the leap into the unknown letting go of trusty supports… taking a step into wilderness, wilder ness, unmapped inner landscapes…some days it’s easier especially when we’re together in the field walking home hand in hand… how i love so many are joining in on the pilgrimage, metaphorically dancing deeper and deeper into the way of peace, letting go of  habit patterns to breathe in more spaciousness, more opening of the heart…

on awakening, i love savoring, luxuriating in  liminal space, curled up in a sacred spot  after flying through the dreamtime sky and diving deeply into grandmother ocean and listening to her lullabies blessing the adventuring into new spaces, wide open places of true refuge, coming home to our one heart, letting go and dissolving into divine flow… listen to her words comforting, soothing, encouraging…

Grandmother Ocean Blessingway

May you find comfort resting with me.
May my heart be a grandmother’s heart, my waves like a grandmother’s arms.
May my response to your suffering be a grandmother’s response to your suffering.
May I sit with you in the dark, like a grandmother sits in the dark.
May you know through our relationship that  love can always be trusted…

in this space, i reai-eyes, that , yes, i have always been led… yes, the soul knows the way of journeying into the unknown along that pathless path choreographed by great mystery, great spirit…

today, to dream the i’mpossible dream and climb every mountain are humming me, singing me as i live out this wild and precious moment…

and you?

“A true vocation requires shedding anything that would impede or obscure the call. A true pilgrimage requires letting go of the very things most people try to hold onto. In seeking after what the soul desires we become pilgrims with no home but the path the soul would have us follow. As the old proverb says, “Before you begin the journey, you own the journey. Once you have begun, the journey owns you.” After all, what good is a dream that doesn’t test the mettle of the dreamer? What good is a path that doesn’t carry us to the edge and then beyond that place? A true calling involves a great exposure before it can become a genuine refuge.”
– Michael Meade –

while walking the camino of peace and purification today, i am tempted to come off the pilgrimage and distract myself from this calling of leaping into the great unknown and so i return to the breath, come home to the stillpoint, the present moment, the calling…

The Journey

Above the mountains
the geese turn into
the light again

Painting their
black silhouettes
on an open sky.

Sometimes everything
has to be
inscribed across
the heavens

so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you.

Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that

small, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.

Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out

someone has written
something new
in the ashes of your life.

You are not leaving
you are arriving.

a mind like the sky

emptiness as vast as space

witnessing wonder

~

the sanskrit word for emptiness is shunyata while the chinese character is sky… both representations plus the image of hang gliding convey some of the experience of our true nature of emptiness…  the joyful freedom and liberation when empty of separation, weightiness, burdens and limitation… a state empty of suffering while grounded in boundless compassion for all relatives, a state sans borders and boundaries, as vast and expansive as the deep peace of the running wave flowing through the all that is…

with every breath and every step on the camino of peace today, a soul song from the source leading this pilgrimage flows – make me an instrument of thy peace, where there is hatred, let me sow love…

in addition to this beloved prayer of St Francis, patron of this pilgrimage, i am singing a song of peace of Jane Goodall…

~

We pray to the great Spiritual Power in which
we live and move and have our being.
We pray that we may at all times
keep our minds open to new ideas and shun dogma;
that we may grow in our understanding of the nature of all living beings
and our connectedness with the natural world;
that we may become ever more filled with
generosity of spirit and true compassion and love for all life;
that we may strive to heal the hurts that we have inflicted on nature
and control our greed for material things, knowing that
our actions are harming our natural world and the future of our children;
that we may value each and every human being
for who he is, for who she is,
reaching to the spirit that is within,
knowing the power of each individual to change the world.

If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.

~ Lao Tzu ~

the poetic peace pilgrimage was conceived so many moons ago as a daily breathing practice of sacred/subtle activism, a breathing in of the bodhisattva vows, a returning to the breath, to life until all beings are liberated…

every day is a day of peace, every moment is a moment of peace, soaring september really underlines the collective theme of peace with celebrating an international day of peace on the 21st just as this prayer of St Francis, a favorite since childhood, is the prayer, the intention, the vow of the peace pilgrimage…

for the last seven moons, i have been preparing to walk the camino of St Francis which was to have begun today in Rome… though unable to physically be there now, i am in spirit walking this camino, this way of peace for the next fourteen days and invite your daily walking this road with me chanting, praying, visualizing, invoking, being peace with every step and every breath…

may we conspire, breathe together these sacred vows this moment, every moment transforming ourselves and the world as we surrender to the vast ocean of peace…

buen camino!

~ Michael Meade ~

every day there are so many things i want to converse with you about, so many tragedies breaking our hearts so let’s begin with conspiring, breathing in together and open to the wellspring of love we are sending that out into the field of interbeing for all the trillions of wild cells in the one body we are…

we are approaching the waxing half moon and sill i feel  so strongly the call to plant seeds of intention to align with the master sculpting force that chisels away the stone of illusion and expectation releasing the spirit held within to take flight and dive ever deeper into the peace passing all understanding, the peace found in the center of the medicine wheel…

i was to have landed in Roma today to begin  a pilgrimage of peace along the Camino of St Francis, a journey i have spent so much  energy attending to and intending…. this vocation, this calling is taking a different form leading me to follow Rumi’s dictum to journey within…

yes, we can all be instruments of peace, holy vessels of compassion in every moment and with every breath wherever we are… so, i’d love your joining me in seeing through eyes of wonder as we wander wholeheartedly into the world being birthed in this moment… the world of peace built on justice guided by love humming to the frequency of harmony with beauty before us, behind us, below us, above us, surrounding us within us…

and so it is, blessed be!

as we celebrate labor today with a pause, more specifically waged labor in the USA and Canada with a day off from work, i find myself  taking this day as a sacred pause to expand upon the notion of labor, to reflect upon its essence as a labor of love, as the great work of being pregnant with an unknown creation forming within, a seed we water and feed and sing to as we hold space reverentially for the new and gather with others to support the birthing process, to shelter the labor of love, the great work of and for all our relatives…

Song of the Builders

On a summer morning
I sat down
on a hillside
to think about God –

a worthy pastime.
Near me, I saw
a single cricket;
it was moving the grains of the hillside

this way and that way.
How great was its energy,
how humble its effort.
Let us hope

it will always be like this,
each of us going on
in our inexplicable ways
building the universe.

in closing, a few words from Martin Luther King’s final speech when he had traveled to support laborers…

“I would like to live a long life,” he said. “Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And he’s allowed me to go up to the mountain, and I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land.”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr ~

~

the way to get there is every day to continue the labor of love… to intend and act from an energy of compassion and liberation and light, to align  more and more deeply with source, the self organizing intelligence of  the ever regenerating space we call home…

 celebrating our labors of love…

welcome to soaring september and the astonishing light of your being weekly segment…. i’m breaking tradition – yes, Yes, YES! – to not start the month in the usual way and to listen to the fierce love message to see the beauty in everything that emphatically calls to be expressed…

so, yes, Yes, YES! You Are So Beautiful!! Take this moment, this beautiful moment to breathe in your beauty and breathe it out with an exuberant YES!

today, i celebrate six years of living Hell YES! when something arises and i’m resonating wholeheartedly, hearing/feeling/sensing in every wild cell Hell YES!, i go for it full steam ahead… this practice grew organically from a practice begun almost eight years ago of saying thank you to everything that arises… of course there are many things that confound my mind as to why be thankful for that which is the beauty of the practice and is like contemplating a koan… it is a tried and true path for opening the heart this saying thank you, this saying yes, Yes, YES! Hell YES!

breathing in, feel something positive… breathing out, say yes… breathing in energy, breathing out yes… breathing in peace… breathing out yes…

may we whisper yes, Yes, YES with every breath…

listen with me now to what the inimitable Charlie Chaplin heard singing him on his 70th birthday…

Love Prayer

As I began to love myself I found that anguish and emotional suffering
are only warning signs that I was living against my own truth.
Today, I know, this is “AUTHENTICITY”.
As I began to love myself I understood how much it can offend somebody
as I try to force my desires on this person,
even though I knew the time was not right and the person was not ready for it,
and even though this person was me.
Today I call it “RESPECT”.
As I began to love myself I stopped craving for a different life,
and I could see that everything that surrounded me was inviting me to grow.
Today I call it “MATURITY”.
As I began to love myself I understood that at any circumstance,
I am in the right place at the right time,
and everything happens at the exactly right moment.
So I could be calm.
Today I call it “SELF-CONFIDENCE”.
As I began to love myself I quit steeling my own time,
and I stopped designing huge projects for the future.
Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness,
things I love to do and that make my heart cheer,
and I do them in my own way and in my own rhythm.
Today I call it “SIMPLICITY”.
As I began to love myself I freed myself of anything
that is no good for my health – food, people, things, situations,
and everything the drew me down and away from myself.
At first I called this attitude a healthy egoism.
Today I know it is “LOVE OF ONESELF”.
As I began to love myself I quit trying to always be right,
and ever since I was wrong less of the time.
Today I discovered that is “MODESTY”.
As I began to love myself I refused to go on living in the past
and worry about the future.
Now, I only live for the moment, where EVERYTHING is happening.
Today I live each day, day by day, and I call it “FULFILLMENT”.
As I began to love myself I recognized that my mind can disturb me
and it can make me sick.
But As I connected it to my heart, my mind became a valuable ally.
Today I call this connection “WISDOM OF THE HEART”.

may we all walk in a sacred way today and every day with each breath a new beginning, each moment a walk in beauty with all our relatives traveling as one along the rainbow trail deeper into great mystery’s sacred web…
